Hi Dr., I have a question for you. I have been recently diagnosed with proctitis and am currently taking Canasa which is a rectal suppository. My doctor said I do not have Crohns or Ulcerative colitis. Mucus in my stools have been gone, but I still have gas in stools, foul smelling stools, and feel the urge to defecate. Could this be something different from Proctitis?
The causes could be infection like herpes or lymphogranuloma venereum,or due to forcefully friction over anus during defecation.
One must rule out sexual transmitted infections like gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphillis. You may require antibiotics (ofloxacin from quinolones group with antiprotozoals like metronidazole or ornidazole),antiinflammatories, corticosteroid topical application or as enemaor suppository form.
