Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am wondering how do Doctors treat a broken pinkie. I just received a call from the fracture clinic that my sons pinkie finger is fractured. I was kind of shocked that they wanted to see him since urgent care put a splint on it. I didn t think there was much you could do to a broken finger. I started looking online and have read that some people need to be casted. What are the odds of being casted. It is the knuckle in his pinkie that is fractured.
First I will advise to send x ray and see pattern of fracture. There is possibility of injury to ligament of metacarpal or phalange joint. If you are having swelling and pain you can strap your finger to get proper rest to joint.
Use ice packs to reduce swelling, inflammation and pain. For early healing you can take Tab celin [vit C] and antioxidant with anti-inflammatory [Tab enzomac plus ].
If your son is in sports and want early recovery surgery is preferred. You can send your x ray directly on my profile. http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-vaibhav-gandhi/63503
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care
