Suggest Treatment For Frequent Cough And Cold In A Child
My 1 yr old keeps on getting a cold that turns into a nasty chesty cough making him sick with phlegm when he wakes up. he is a really good eater so I don t believe that vitamins will help but don t want to make a pest of myself at the doctors. We have about 3-4 days without then the cycle starts all over again and lasts a few weeks.
It is very common for infants and children to get a frequent cough and cold. Its more common during winter seasons. A normal child can have 10 -15 episodes of a cough and cold per year.
If a cough and cold persist continuously for more than 2 weeks or if there are thick yellowish or greenish nasal discharge with high fever or sudden worsening of the symptoms, then we need to attend and treat it with or without antibiotics.
For the current issue, I would recommend a decongestant like MAXTRA drops or PHENERGAN drops along with the frequent nasal application of normal saline nasal drops.
If any of the above-mentioned symptoms or fast breathing/ decreased feeding and activity present, then I would suggest you consult a paediatrician immediately.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
