Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Today I had a HIDA Scan done on my gallbladder. They said my gallbladder was not working at all. Is there anything you can do to get the gallbladder back to working or is surgery the only answer? The reason for the scan is because I was having heart attack symptoms, pressure and chest pain. Also pain in the shoulder. Sonogram on the Gallbladder did not show any stones so I had the HIDA Scan done.
Hi, Thanks for posting your query. I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you. The only option to get relief from symptoms related to poor functioning of gallbladder is surgical removal. The ejection fraction should be at least 35% in HIDA scan. If it is less than that, then it indicates the gallbladder is not functioning well and it has to be removed. I hope that answers your question. Regards, Dr.R.K.
