Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking several over the counter medications for excessive gas but they don t work. I don t have abdominal pain or constipation. I m thinking about seeing a GI specialist. I am 80 and weight 130. My over all health is good except I occasionally have OAB. I watch my diet but I do eat a lot of Sargento swiss cheese on Triscuits and fresh almond butter on Nut Thins. .
Dear- thanks for using our service and I understand your concern. Gas can be very painful and sometimes the medications don't work. It is important to avoid small seeds like nuts because you can have diverticular disease and small seeds can go into the diverticuli and give you pain and gas. Also, digestion gets slow as we get older and vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and lettuce produce a lot of gas. I agree that you should have a GI evaluation. Gastritis improves when we avoid spicy food, coffee, alcohol and carbonated drinks. I hope that my advise has been helpful Dr.Sara
