Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with gastroparesis, was hoping to begin therapy with domperidome with my visit today, but my physician states newer info showing it to be more dangerous to patients with heart disease than previously thought. I take narcotic medication for reflex sympathetic dystrophy as well as lumbar radiculopathy, failed back, ...these meds are supposedly causing the gastroparesis. I don t know what to do......is there nothing I can do aside from stopping my pain meds, which for me would be impossible with my pain levels. I am feeling hopeless.
other medication one can try is Metoclopramide. these medication can't be used for long term.
first of all you need to have tests to make sure you have gastroparesis. gastric emptying study is done for evaluating gastroparesis.
do you suffer with any other medical problems especially diabetes. if you suffer from diabetes, tight blood sugar control can improve symptoms of gastroparesis.
avoid taking narcotics. take regular lacatives for treating narcotic induced obstipation/constipation. try other modalities for pain management to avoid taking narcotics.
