Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother who is 34 has gastroparesis. He has been diabetic since he was around 12 yrs. He has thrown up for over 7 years non stop. Lately the last week has not been able to hold anything down and has gotten weaker. Is there anyone that can help him?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Since you brother has been diabetic since the age of 12 means this is Juvenile diabetes and needs Insulin for good control of diabetes as also other measures that will help delay the latent bad effects of diabetes. Now that he is 34 years that is 22 years of having diabetes, gastroparesis is one of the known complications that is known to occur. There are different types of prokinetics that can be tried under the prescription and guidance of the Doctor/Gastroenterologist which may help the Gastroparesis so that some forward movement of the food occurs. Also to be noted are the foods and beverages that instigate or worsen the problems should be stopped. Gastroparesis is a big challenge and needs proper management. Also get the proper evaluation of diabetes including HbA1c and average blood glucose levels. This will give the idea about how controlled is diabetes now and for the last three months so that a proper management has to be done.Small frequent feeds also help.
