Suggest Treatment For Geriatric Failure

I believe my 83 year old mother is suffering from geriatric failure to thrive. This seems to have begun about 1 year ago. She is down to 89 pounds and is now living at an assisted living facility. Is there anything I can do to help her improve? Also, would you be able to give me an idea of how long she might live in this condition?

Geriatrics Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Failure to thrive is due yo severe stress, loss of hope and chronic pain conditions.
2. Family support and involvement in social activities will be helpful.
3. Hospitalization will further deteriorate and in this condition, she could die for cardiac cause.
4. Good hydration, nutritional supplements, family support, counseling and good caretaker essential for further improvement.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
