The hair of my beard (only left side) is changing into white since a year and 8 to 10% hairs of the beard has been changed from black to white. white hairs are slowly going up to my mustaches. But hair of my head is black and no any changing seen. Why it is being changed only of beared hair. Kindly suggest reason & suitable medicines please.
Hi. Localized area of white hairs (poliosis) may be seen in vitamin B12 deficiency. It might be associated with other features like angular cheilitis, atrophic glossitis and neurological features like tingling sensation etc. Are you having any of the features described earlier? One more possibility i can think of is alopecia areata. Are you having low density of hairs in areas with hair? Sometimes, it may be idiopathic and no cause can be found. Such cases are usually resistant to treatment. Some cases respond to zinc supplementation too.
