Hello Ms Meenakshi,
How are you? My name is Dr Suresh Raghavaiah. I am a
Liver cancer specialist and I hope to answer your question today.
I am so sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis and I can understand your apprehensions.
From your history, I understand that your father has a growth on the liver and by your apprehension, I would think it is a malignant
tumor. The treatment of liver tumors depend on a lot of factors, most important being the physical fitness of the patient (not only age, but general fitness) and also the condition of the liver. If the liver is otherwise totally normal we can usually resect (remove) upto 70% of the liver without any problem to the patient. But if the underlying liver is not healthy, then surgical options may be limited. In this case, there are various ablative therapies available which can be done on a day care basis.
Mumbai and Pune do have a lot of hospitals which specialise in the care of liver cancer patients, but I am not sure if I am allowed to post them in this forum.
Please do write to me at XXXX to discuss the options.
Hope this helped and hope your dad starts to feel better.
Have a great day
Dr Suresh Raghavaiah
