Hello,My dermatologist asked me to get some blood tests done and determined that my iron content and vitamin d level was very low. She determined that the cause for my hair loss is because of that and termed it telogen effluvium. She advised me to get on vitamin and iron supplements. It has been a 1.5 yrs since and my iron and vitamin D levels were normal the last time I checked (6 months ago). I still don t see any relief.. there is still a considerable amount of hair loss and esp near temples. I am not taking any more iron or vitamin supplements. Is there any hope? I can easily see my scalp and that has made me worry too much. PLease advise.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Your problem is most likely male pattern hair loss as you are getting especially on temple region. Minoxidil lotion is the treatment of choice for this. But this should be applied regularly for 3 to 4 months continuously to get benefit. Also it should be continued as sudden stopping has shown some reversal of effects. If any dandruff is there it should be cleared by using coal tar shampoos. Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further queries.
