Hello,

Since, you have been out of rehab means the changes in bowel habits were as per your past habits which needs to be regularized as follows as you have hard stools.

First of all, get an X-ray of abdomen to see whether there are Fecoliths and if present, then you have to get the enema to clear the colon first so that possibly the stool softeners and laxatives.
You may need repeated enemas till the bowel is regularized.

Also, needed is change in diet to suit easy passage of stool; may be add on more fibers, plenty of oral fluids. Avoid stress and anxiety as this has a direct bearing on bowel habits.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
