Suggest Treatment For Heartburn Even After Taking Pantoprazole
I have had heartburn for over one and a half months. Took Prilosec but did not help. Saw a doctor and was prescribed Pantoprazole but doesn t seem to get better. H. pylori was negative in my blood test. Have lost about 7 to 8 pounds. Have watched out what I am eating but the heartburn still bothers me. Do you have any suggestion what causes it or what I should do next?
Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic. With this presentation, I think it might be an ulcer. H pylori is not always positive in all the cases. To be sure of the diagnosis, a doctor (gastroenterologist) needs to carry out a certain procedure on you called fibroscopy. In case of an ulcer, it is often advisable to take treatment for close to a month to give time for this ulcer to heal. Treatment consists of associating an antacid with another drug that would reduce acid secretion. Since you are already taking pantoprazole, I would advise you add an antacid like tums, topaal, maalox, or any other one that is available.
I hope that helps. I wish you well
