Suggest Treatment For Heavy Menstrual Bleeding And Abdominal Pain

Hi, I m female, 29 yr.s old. My period is typically 7-8 days long. I got my period on Sept. 26th but I am still bleeding. It was a regular period at first, & on the day it should have ended...it turned darker in color. It is a brownish & sometimes red & the amount a light period would be. We are now at 14 days, so I am a bit concerned. I am not on birth control, & haven t been for years. My husband and I are trying to conceive, & obviously I m not pregnant. What could it be? My doctor said it could just be a cyst that burst, since last Thurs (Oct. 2nd) I had severe pain in my lower right abdomen. That lasted a few hours, but eventually passed. Should I be concerned?

Hi,
The possibility of a ruptured ovarian cyst as the cause of this prolonged bleeding is reason good enough, provided you had cysts earlier, though undetected. Yet, you can ask your doctor to give you a course of progesterone to control the bleeding and induce a proper period after completion of the treatment. Prior to that, please exclude pregnancy through a blood pregnancy test and a pelvic/trans-vaginal sonogram. Please improve the general condition by taking a healthy diet and maintain genital hygiene. Take care.
