Suggest Treatment For Hemochromatosis
HI - male 31 with haemochromatosis. Had a venesection last month and as part of my routine blood tests my consultant noted that my antibodies were low. He wants more tests done - I am a little concerned - I had drank alcohol in the days leading up to the venesection - could this have distorted my antibodies reading?

I really appreciate you concern.
Usually serum ferritin level and serum transferrin saturation studies are done to asses the extent of iron overload. Alcohol consumption may cause liver injury which may aggrevate the disease.
if the iron overload can not be managed by venesection (done once or twice weekly) like patients with anemia, or heart disease then Chelation therapy is the treatment of choice.
