Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My family doctor said I had two external hemorrhoids and referred me to a gastroenterologist. I went today and the nurse the PA called in said she didn't see anything but diaper rash from incomplete bowel movements and the PA ordered Miralax, a dpaper rash ointment, Desitin, Sitz bath and baby wipes. If no relief in 6 eeks a colonoscopy. Does this sound like good advice? June Lowe YYYY@YYYY
Hemorrhoids are inflamed and swollen veins that are formed when there is continuous irritation of the veins present in the rectum area and inflammation can lead to pain and bleeding during bowel evacuation..
The treatment that you are advised is appropriate and you can het relieved with it.. You can continue with the same and also start apply topical ointments containing steroids and numbing agents like Lignocaine.. Do cool compresses.. You should also do sitz bath that is sitting in warm water tub especially after bowels.. Avoid spicy foods as it can increase irritation and pain.. Drink plenty of water..
In case if still there is no relief consult a Proctologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination and anoscopy can be done.. You can be advised surgical procedures like Rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy or Hemorrhoidectomy that is surgical removal of the hemorrhoids..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
