Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 77 yrs old male, recently diagnosed with high blood pressure, and now I am on 100 mg atenolol. today I had an EKG due to palpitation and the result came back with first degree heart block. is that ok to continue my beta blocker medication. thanx
Hello! Your concern about beta blockers is justified. If you were my patient, I'd evaluate whether there is any pressing indication for the use of atenolol like the presence of ischemic heart disease. Palpitation could have been due to a cardiac problem. If not and the drug was started only for the treatment of high blood pressure, I'd stop the drug and start another drug like amlodipine or a diuretic. Trust I have answered your question.
