Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, My 5 year old has had a fever since Wednesday evening. She is going between normal (98 degrees) and 104 degrees, without sustained improvement. Our pediatrician said it s probably the flu, but I m concerned that she s at day 6 with a high fever. Is this normal?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Is she acting normally? Taking an adequate amount of fluids? What is her appetite like? Having pains? Coughing? In addition to fever, symptoms of flu are:
-cough
-runny nose
-sore throat
-muscle aches and pains
-pneumonia
Any child who has had high fevers for this length of time needs to have a medical evaluation as soon as possible!
Taking her to an Emergency Room (known as an A&E in Britain) is another way to have her seen by a doctor quickly.
I hope you find this to be good advice and take her as soon as you can.
