Suggest Treatment For Hip And Leg Pain Caused By Severe Foraminal Stenosis
I have severe right foraminal stenosis which has caused hip and leg pain in the past. For the past week I have been having severe pain when trying to lift my leg up onto the bed or into the car....making activities difficult. I have to actually lift the leg with my hands sometimes and it causes pain in the upper inner thigh. I also have numbness and tingling down that leg. Could the problems lifting my leg be happening because of the stenosis?
It is very likely that the foraminal stenosis is causing pain and difficulty in your daily activities. Lifting the thigh(flexion) requires intact nerve roots in the L1 and L2 spinal nerves, knee extension in L3 and ankle in L4 and L5. A compressed nerve can present as Pain , Parathesia(pins and needles) or weakness which is what you are describing. The affected limb is usually slightly smaller than the unaffected side.
I would suggest you see a spinal surgeon and get an MRI done to see the extent of involvement. Pain medication such as neurontin may assist but may mask the real problem.
