Suggest Treatment For Hip Injury

I fell down the stairs carrying my little girl the other day in the rain. I held her up in the air so I landed quite hard on my hip. It happened about a week ago. Although I can get around better now there is a large circle on my hip and upper thigh that is sore to the touch and is reAl red with fever in it? I hate going to the dr but do you think it could be serious?
