The last couple of days, I ve been having sudden outbreaks of hives. The only change in me medication is the addition of potassium. I have not had any change in the type of food I ve been eating. I cannot think what is causing these hives which can be quite severe. Could the potassium be causing it?
hi, thank you for putting up your query on HCM. as per your history, you have urticarial rash or hives. -- yes, they can occur as a side effect of potassium. I would recommend you to stop taking potassium supplements. -- also, I would request you to notice, if you have taken any sour food, or milk products such as yoghurt, tomato, lemon, brinks etc. -- I would request you to avoid these foods for at least 4 weeks. -- take levocetrizine twice a day and tab ranitidine 150 mg twice a day before food. -- also, you may apply soothing lotion such as calamine lotion over the lesions. consult a dermatologist nearby, it it persists or worsen. wishing you good health. thank you.
