Suggest Treatment For Hypertension And Congestive Heart Failure
My husband has chronic hypertension controlled by meds. He is 76 yrs of age and plays golf regularly. For the last couple of weeks suffering from cough and not feeling well, had 2 rounds of abx, inhaler and cough med. Still fighting the cough, MD ordered different type of cough med. Noticed his feet were edematous few days ago and he mentioned he has some SOB when bending over. His GP took x-ray and they called and said signs of early CHF. He has appt. with his cardiologist Feb. 13, should he try to get in earlier? His GP ordered 20 mg. QD of Lisix.
Hi welcome to HCM. I understand your query and concern.Elevated blood pressure in your case needs good control. You are adequately placed well on Lasix for for congestive symptoms.I advise you to have a baseline 2 dimensional echocardiography,ECG and lipid profile to assess the basic cardiac reserve of your heart.Restrict the intake of salt to less than 6g/day.Regular physical exercise in the form of brisk walk for 20 min a day for 5 days a week is pretty useful.Drugs like antihypertensives like metolar xl 50 mg a day will help.Reduce the intake of fatty and fried food. One pomegranate a day will help to keep your heart at good pace .In case if the symptoms has not resolved as of now,I recommend you to take early appointment with your doctor.Cough can be treated with syrup Zedex under medical prescription. Consult a Cardiologist for further expert management.Post your further queries if any. Thank you.
