I have taken thyroid medicine for almost ten years but I still have all of the symptoms of low thyroid in- cluding thinning hair, extremely dry skin, hard to lose weight (180 lbs.), etc. Do I need to insist that my MD increase my dosage. I am a 71 yr. old female and currently take one tablet a day of Levothyroxin 75mcg.
Thyroxine dose is not increased or decreased based on symptoms. This is because the symptoms are not specifc for hypothyroidism.
I suggest you to do a thyroid function tests and to increase or decrease the dose based on that reports.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.
