My daughter gave birth for the first time about a week ago. For a long time we weren t sure if she would be able to conceive because despite trying and not using protection for over 3 years, she had no luck. History of hypothyroid disease pre pregnancy. The dr started getting her levels to an optimal level for her vs what most Drs would say they re within normal range now. You re fine. Despite still have signs and symptoms of hypo. Once her new dr finally got them to a more optimal range, she got pregnant shortly after. Her OB, for the most part as far as bedside manner was great. Her being a mom, herself, probably helped. However, she wasn t very diligent about monitoring her thyroid levels even with TSH around 4.2 & climbing. Very end of low normal Free T4 etc. My daughter suffered through her pregnancy with increasing severe headaches and quite a bit of edema even for pregnancy. OB It happens sometimes in pregnancy. It s normal. Never monitored her thyroid levels after the e.r checked them & old school dr said the dreaded words suffering hypos hate to hear normal range despite being told by regular dr that it s important to keep the TSH at least under 2 and Free T4 upper 3 rd range...especially since those levels were ones that my daughter did better all the way around with. Told the same by a different dr in e.r when she had to go to be checked due to severe headaches. Hypo suffers know what I m talking about. Fast forward: the swelling all over her body has not went down at all, constipation so severe I had to bring her an aide to help, crying for no reason, along with the rest of the same symptoms and signs she had when first found to be hypo an treated only worse. Her OB/Gyn isn t a fan of checking any hormone levels not just thyroid. Said she doesn t feel blood levels are a good indicator so ignores everything and here my daughter sets and continues to suffer because In her mind if her levels were of concern the OB would or would ve done something by now. No increase in thyroid mods in over a year despite climbing and declining levels above and hasn t been back to regular physician that was monitoring them because she thought that any time something was wrong to go to OB for it because of pregnancy. What do I do for her or what should I tell her? Lower than average body temp again and decreasing same with Bo just like when her levels start messing up again? Sorry long winded. Don t know where else to turn to get her help since OB isn t, obviously. Please HELP.
