Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.
Regarding your main concern – that of
unprotected intercourse. You can take the
Emergency contraceptive pill which has
Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg within 72 hours of having unprotected intercourse – but the sooner the better. It goes by brand name of I-pill, Unwanted 72 etc. Emergency contraceptive pill can be taken even if breast feeding. See if you can get a doctor’s prescription for this as soon as possible, as it is necessary to make sure that you do not have any contraindications for this pill.
Another concern that I have noticed is that you mentioned you have stopped your
Eltroxin tablets as your
thyroid function tests are normal. You stopped abruptly from 100 mcgs dose of Eltroxin. Ideally, once a patient is diagnosed as hypothyroid, he/she needs to continue Levothyroxine/Eltroxin for life long, may be the dose can be reduced and you could be kept on the smallest possible dose. But you were on 100 mcgs which is a reasonable dose and if stopped your
TSH may most possibly start to rise again. In fact, may be you seeing two menstrual periods last month could also be due to your
hypothyroidism ( as normally women who exclusively breast feed do not have periods for the first 3-4 months).
Can I advise you to check your Thyroid function tests if the last test was done more than 6 weeks back. Take the reports and see your doctor to consider restarting the Eltroxin again.
I hope this answer has helped you.
Thank you
Regards
Dr Sunita Sayammagaru
