Suggest Treatment For Impetigo

Dear Dr. Rynne, I have a case of impetigo for about 14 days now, and have been prescribed taro-mupirocin. It seemed to be healing but now it isn t. Am I supposed to peel or wipe off the crusty skin before apply a new coat of medication? Please advise, thanks!

Hello,
Thanks for the query.
These are toxin mediated bacterial infections.Treatment is with antibiotics but the choice of antibiotics should be based on culture and sensitivity tests.
The bacterial focus can be in throat hence oral antibiotics might be required.
Don't peel off the crusty skin it can cause secondary infection.
Please meet a dermatologist for exact diagnosis.Let me know if you have any other doubt.you can ask a direct question to me on this forum, following the below link.http://www.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-rahul-kumar/64818Wishing you a good health.Thank you
