Suggest Treatment For Incomplete Evacuation Of Bladder

Mu son was born with Lipomeningacele, he is now 16 and his most recent scan showed the kidney has dialated. He has slight bladder leakage and a recent test confirmed his bladder is on the small side. He has never been able to completely empty. What doyou think the next step in his treatment would be?

Urologist 's  Response
Hello,

The lipomeningocele your son had affected the nerves to the urinary bladder preventing it from emptying normally. This leads to high pressures in the urinary bladder affecting the kidneys.

I would suggest you get evaluated by a urologist at the earliest to prevent further deterioration of the kidneys. The further treatment plan would be based on the results of bladder function tests only, but would most likely involve drugs to reduce bladder pressures and self-catheterization.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Karthik Rajan
