Suggest Treatment For Infection On Big Toe

My husband has a bad infection on his big toe for the last week. It hasn t goton better. We tried soaking it in Epsom salt. It seemed to help a little, but it s not getting better. I told him to go to the doctor. He just procrastinates because we don t have the money. He could go to emergency. I think he should. What is your prognosis?

Podiatrist 's  Response
Hi-
Thanks for contacting HCM. An infection in the big toe would definitely need to be addressed with antibiotics. The cause of this is sometimes an ingrown nail, which would need to be taken out (any local podiatrist can do this) to prevent further/prolonged infections. Other times it can be just a skin infection. Either way it is recommended to see a physician for this, as soaking will not remove an infection.
I hope this answer helped. If you have any further questions, I am here to help.
Thanks.
