Suggest Treatment For Inflammatory Arthritis On Wrist

I have been diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis in one wrist. Also test negative for RA but doctor feels I might have it? Wants me to start taking methotrexate but am concerned about side effects and could I have anything else that has created such damage to my wrist?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
your doctor diagnosed you with inflammatory arthritis of one wrist on what basis? Whether radiograph was done ? What is your age? Have you suffered any trauma to your wrist? Also inflammatory arthritis is mostly bilateral but can be unilateral. RA factor is positive in only 60% of rheumatoid arthritis patients. Single joint arthritis can be due to infection such as tuberculosis. I would like you to advise MRI of involved wrist before starting any treatment. Methotrexate has significant adverse effects but it also relieve symptoms of arthritis very effectively. You can take opinion of rheumatologist before start treatment. All the best.
