Suggest Treatment For Injury On The Leg In An Elderly Person
hello sir My father is facing a situation where he was been injured on his leg which it turned out to be major wound. He is a diabetic patient and his age is 59yrs. A doctor from banglore advised him to admit in hospital first to control diabetes by giving insulin and then treat for wound. Please advise me better way to heal his wound to avoid worse cases.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Wound healing is delayed in persons having diabetes mellitus. Also, if blood glucose is uncontrolled or remains high, it could result in infection and further complications associated with it. Hence, only wound care might not suffice in such cases. What the doctor has advised is right as maintaining blood glucose in normal range would help to heal the wound better and early. Kindly check his random blood glucose (RBS) level. In case it is high, he would require admission and administration of insulin and other hypoglycemic drugs to bring down the levels to normal with simultaneous institution of wound care. Gradually, his condition should improve and should get better, once proper treatment has been instituted. Kindly do not neglect and act promptly. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
