Suggest Treatment For Injury On Upper Lip

Couple weeks ago I was punched in the upper lip. It was cut open on the inside and the swelling was pretty bad. Today, it was tight and hurting again. It popped on its own but there was a lot of blood and puss. The puss was about a quarter amount. Should I be concerned or see a doctor?

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Certainly you need to see your doctor. Pus and pain indicates that there is infection in that area.
If I was the treating doctor I would have started you on Oral antibiotics for a week e.g either Flucloxacillin Or Cephalexin. That should take care of the infection.
It is important to clean the wound with an antiseptic solution e.g betadine and keep it covered with a sterile gauge dipped in betadine. Once the wound begins to heal you may use an OTC antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment twice daily.
An OTC oral antiinflammatory e.g Ibuprofen will provide you symptomatic relief from pain and swelling.
