Suggest Treatment For Irritability And Anger After Taking Hormone Pills

My wife had her thyroid removed, due to cancer, and she must now take hormone pills. She is now very irritable, often getting overly angry about some insignificant problem. Is there anything I can do to help her stay calm? Is her med too strong or weak? Are there any special diets or excercises that I can help her with? I am worried about her losing her temper over nothings .

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
The irritability is probably due to a high dose of Levothyroxine which is given after thyroidectomy. This is given with the intention of keeping the thyroid suppressed by decreasing the thyroid stimulating hormone ( TSH).
This can be confirmed from TSH and FT4. If the values are very abnormal, then it is better to reduce the dose, in consultation with your doctor.
Then her irritability due to the excess of Levothyroxine will be better.
If you have further query, I shall be happy to answer them.
Take Care
