Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I think I have IBS. What should I do. I have been taking hydrated chia seeds, cold milled flax seeds smoothies, psyllium fiber capsules, and eat an apple with peel a day. There is a section of my lower stomach (right side) that is irritable when I wake in the morning. When I am standing up or setting down , not so much. I have recovered from a bout of diverticulitis about a month ago. Is IBS treatable? I thank you for your service. David Reavis
Hi Davis, Welcome to Healthcaremagic. Your symptoms are not well described that a definitive diagnosis cannot be made with the same. If fact a diagnosis of Irritable bowel syndrome can be made only once other evident pathologies are ruled out. You will have to do preliminary set of investigations like blood counts, stool microscopy and culture, serology for coeliac disease and an abdominal ultrasound and finally a colonoscopy is also warranted in such a case. Treatment options are available for irritable bowel syndrome and depends on the type of symptoms like diarrhoea predominant , constipation predominant or mixed. I can help you with that, please reply with the results and detailed symptoms. Thank you.
