Suggest Treatment For Itching Sensation And Redness At The Insect Bite Site

I was stung by a honey bee on Friday 24 and pull the stinger out 2 min later. I then started feeling dizzy approximately 20-30 min later, then nausea, then muscle weakness, confused and wasn t able to respond to command. Ice pack and Benadryl was applied and given. 4-5 hours later my muscle function slowly return. The left side of my shoulder where the bee stung me is still swollen, itches, red and I am currently taking Zyrtec and cleaning with alcohol. I exercise Mon-Fri consistently for over 30 years. What additional advice should I do or not do?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

As per your case history, you are suffering from insect bite dermatitis.

My treatment advice is:

1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm-B cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine twice daily for 7 to 10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics and oral steroid, taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
