Suggest Treatment For Itching Sensation At The Incision Site Despite Taking Benadryl
I followed my Thoracic Anuerysm for 25 years. A young surgeon saw me in ER and talked me into the GoreTag reinforcement. He didn’t have the right size so he deployed three Thoracic goretags in my aorta. Going up my right femoral artery he left 3 metal wires in my groin. Two weeks Post Op I experienced severe itching near the incision. Hoping it was incision healing I ignored it and scratched myself raw. It’s been three years of agonizing itching. The surgeon refuses to see me because he was gone after my surgery vacationing and his office could not answer my concerns so I follow up with another surgeon. Currently I’m on 50 mg Benadryl twice a day. Feeling scared. I’ve taken the Benadryl for almost 3 years.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history of itching on incision site, my treatment advice is :
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like fusiderm-b cream twice daily on it. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetirizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
