I have a really terrible scar on my leg that i got from a fall. (a burn out) and i m concerned because of how big it is. it is darker than my normal skin colour and not soft like a normal scar, it is really hard and if i kneel down it hurts from the pressure. it is also very itchy
You seem to be having a hypertrophic scar which means that self repair after the injury leads to overgrowth of the hard element of the skin which in this case is kind of fiber. I have had hundreds of cases of this nature and have observed that despite treatment the response is at the most just average. Incidentally, the text books too subscribe to this view. However, there are a few things you can do and help yourself.
Firstly, protect yourself from injuries Secondly, keep the affected scar slightly lubricated. Do not scratch or manipulate but use anti allergic medication to control the urge to scratch. Lastly, please wait for some time as this is likely to get better with time and itching or growth that might be prominent in initial phase tends to get better. A word of caution is also offered to you and that is if you notice unusual activity like oozing or ulceration, them seek immediate medical help. Hope you feel better soon.
