Suggest Treatment For Itchy Patches And Discoloration On The Upper Arms
Around a year and a half ago after a holiday in the sun I started developing itchy then scaly patches on the tops of my arms. Gradually it led to lots of patches which have now lost pigmentation. The areas would itch and scab over before going white (I'm dark skinned). I haven't had any new patches recently but my arms still itch and I'm wondering if I can get the colour back. Every dr has said something different do I'm very confused
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Distribution along the sun exposed skin of arms suggests that it could be either a sun light induced eruption of it could be lupus. Both of these are induced or exacerbated by sunlight. The white color could be either post inflammatory hypopigmentation if it is a sunlight induced eruption or it could be due to depigmentation and atrophy associated with lupus. I suggest you to kindly visit a dermatologist in your region so as to ascertain the exact reason for discoloration. In any case , you should use a sunscreen, throughout the day. At night i dugest you to use a moderately potent topical steroid e.g either mometasone furoate cream or triamcinolone acetonide cream. Depigmentation of lupus is sometimes permanent.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
