Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I twisted my knee a playing basketball a few months ago and heard a pop sound as it happened, followed by intense pain that lasted only a couple of minutes. I subsequently endured a dull pain to the right side of the knee for a few weeks (particularly when driving or climbing the stairs) and then it felt better. I twisted the same knee about 4 weeks ago playing football. It is feeling much better know and I am intending to get back to playing basketball/ football but am afraid of injuring the knee again. I d be grateful for any advice you may offer. Thank you. Shehu
As per your age and history there is possibility of soft tissue injury in knee. Most commonly meniscus injury occurs.
As per your symptoms you need to do physiotherapy and knee exercises to improve range of motion . If pain persist then you may need to do MRI again to see for any functional defect.
Small meniscus tear can be managed conservatively with physiotherapy with USG and TENS. Meniscus injury can be managed by arthroscopic repair, and same day you can go home. Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care.
