Hi, thursday July 23rd of last week I forgot a tampon in my vagina. I used tampons everyday until this Monday which was the 27th (so it was left in for approximately 4 days). I began to feel pelvic along with left side stomach pains monday night and smelled a fishy type smell around saturday which got stronger each day. I douched monday night and noticed something wasn t right and decided to check my vagina. Low and behold, after a difficult time, i pulled the old tampon out. The smell was horrendous but was somewhat gone after removing the tampon. Now 3 days later I m having left pelvic pain and I m not sure if its normal. I have amoxicillin which I have been taking 1-2 daily (875 mg). I am without insurance should I be concerned and see a dr?
Hello, In the current scenario, you should definitely see a specialist. It is obvious that you have developed an infection and the extent of its spread has to be gauged and controlled. Otherwise, it can lead to sepsis with grave consequences. Also, do not douche or use strong soap solutions. Avoid using tampons and go for the sanitary pads instead. Amoxycillin and in the dose you have been taking it, is definitely not going to help. You need a stronger and a pelvic antibiotic. Hope this helps.
