Suggest Treatment For Leg And Back Cramps

My husband is a contractor working on a gymnasium installation. He went for lunch and while waiting to be served drank a mtn dew on an empty stomach along with tonic water for the leg cramps he gets. He is fine now but had a reaction of feeling nauseated, faint like, became pale and hand strong hand and back cramps to where the employee had to rub his hands to ease the stiffness. Things have dissipated after eating. He is working out of town. I am thinking this is from not eating breakfast and then being dehydrated. Should he go to urgent care. He is 65 and takes blood pressure medication only.

Hi, thanks for posting the concern in HCM.
As you have posted, your husband had carbonated beverage at empty stomach and developed nausea, pain in back and hand and had a faint like feeling.
Now, you want to know reason behind the same.
This needs evaluation for any cardiac problem like ischaemic heart disease and ACS, or gi problem like Gastritis etc. For that the following tests are needed.
Ecg,
Complete blood count, urea, creatinine, electrolytes
If Ecg is normal, TMT may be done.
Your assumption may be partially correct. Carbonated beverages in empty stomach can cause bloating, stomach distension and autonomic response.
UGI endoscopy may also be needed to rule out acid peptic disease and peptic ulcer.
Therefore, urgent evaluation is needed by a physician along with the above mentioned tests.
In case you have any other questions, please write back.
