I am 33 weeks pregnant, 41 years old and over weight. I have been suffering from sever leg cramps at night. I now have a sore spot on the back of my calf mid way between my ankle and knee. At times touching this spot causes the leg muscles to cramp right up. At night I find it almost impossible to find a comfortable position for my leg. Most nights I spend a fair amount of time just walking around the house to ease the pain in my leg. At times I get cramps on the side of my ankle, my thigh and my arm but these have decreased dramatically with the addition of orange juice for more potassium to my diet. Nothing seems to help my leg. I do have a history of sever toximia in the final weeks of my prior pregnancies.
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Leg cramps and soreness in the calf muscles in pregnancy is usually due to the electrolyte imbalance. However, if it is not getting relieved by juices or salt water, then you should consult a neurologist for proper examination and treatment accordingly. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Dr Deepti Verma
