Suggest Treatment For Loose Fluid Discharge From The Sinuses

I’ve had a problem with my sinuses for quite a while. I’ve been to the ent doctor many times . I’ve had ballon sinaplasty and another procedure. I’ve been givin many different antibiotis but it never stopped running liquid. I was blowing my nose all day long. And it came out clear and greenish- brown. So I went to my doctor last week and he told me I had a urinary infection and he said it was e- Coli antibiotic resistant so he gave me smz/tmp. Ds tab 880-160. I started taking it and I noticed my sinus was getting better not running near as much. But now I have finished the medicine and my sinuses arent completly cured . What should I do now?

Hello,

Greenish brown discharge from the nose is most probably due to infection in the sinuses leading to sinusitis. And as the sinuses drain through nostrils, therefore fluid/pus accumulation in sinuses can drain through the nose. As you have taken the antibiotic the sinus problem has also improved. I would suggest you consult your physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x-ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

You can be advised another course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephedrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room. You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing xylometazoline or oxymetazoline.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
