Hello,
Your symptoms are indicative of
laryngitis. Your vocal cords need rest. Give voice rest, do not talk. Avoid clearing your throat as doing so will further irritate your already inflamed vocal cords. Wash your hands often and avoid contact with people who have upper respiratory infections such as colds. Keep yourself well hydrated and limit caffeine and alcohol intake.
Do not smoke and prefer taking liquid / semi solid diet. Get clinically examined by an ENT to rule out
bronchitis,
sinusitis or cold. You will have to get a few tests and investigations done. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected. You will be treated with antibiotics or analgesics. Gargle your throat with salt water 3 times a day.
Take antihistamine to get rid of progressive cough and symptoms of allergy. You also donated blood; sometimes acute anemia (low level of red blood cells) may cause symptoms of
dyspnea (
shortness of breath). Take
iron supplements or food rich in iron and calcium /
magnesium.
Other factors that may cause shortness of breath are anxiety, respiratory infection, history of smoking, underlying heart and lung conditions, etc. You are suggested to get the underlying heart and lung condition examined and evaluated. Any underlying pathology causing shortness of breath will be treated as soon as diagnosed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
