Hi,
Hearing noises is called auditory hallucination, but in your dad's case, it seems to be something coming from his ears, possibly tinnitus. Aged people will develop sclerosis of labrynth, resulting in reduced hearing and tinnitus (presbyacusis).

A ENT consultation and few drugs like gingko biloba, beta histine will help.
hope this helped.
