Hi,
I reviewed your question. There can be many reasons for a hard, purplish lump under the skin With your history of it suddenly appearing after kneeling and straining (picking up your daughter), it is most likely a small ruptured
varicose vein, which would be like a deep-seated
bruise. There is also perforating veins that can rupture or form little lumps.
Do you have
spider veins or varicose veins? This lesion should be self-limiting and heal within 2-3 weeks. If it is sensitive, ice or a
heparin gel application might make it better. If you were my patient and it is not disappearing within a few weeks, I would take it out (excision) and submit it to microscopic examination (histopathology) to rule out anything more serious.
I used to treat many patients with varicose veins in my practice, and if you have any of these, it may be advisable to either have them treated by a phlebology specialist (specialist in leg vein diseases), or just wearing compression stockings or - pantyhose to prevent it from happening again.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help and to explain further.
Regards,
Dr Christine Sauer
