I have had lumps behind my left ear for quite a few years now. Normally I can only feel a small hard moveable series of bumps, however within the past year/ 2 years they have been getting worse. I ve had at least 4-5 this year that have gotten large enough to worry me. They are not really painful unless I mess with them. They get large & red & feel hot to touch- some burst & shoot out copious amounts of dark blood & pus (some even make a weird noise when they do this). They take forever to heal up & even then they just get small & never really go away. I have weird holes/tunnels behind my ear now & the whole backside feels rough to touch. The only thing I have changed lately is that I ve been growing my hair out & it s now nearly to my butt- but I would think if that s the cause it d be behind both ears?
Hi, If I were your treating Doctor for this case of lump behind your ear, I would come up with the following possibilities,
1) this may be the case of mastoiditis, where the inner er gets infected and infection spreads from inner side to the outer part of bone which need to be evaluated by doing ear CT scanand once it is diagnosed and it can be treated by doing mastoidectomy surgery.
2)so after ruling out the above diagnose, it could be just local skin infection where the abcess i mean that particular lump can be drained and left open till it healed.
I suggest you to consult a ENT specialist regarding your problem.
