My father recently had chest films done and they found lung lesions. He has been a heavy smoker for 40 + years. They want to repeat the chest film, but told him that he has COPD and possibly emphysema. Can these be the cause of the lung lesions? What is the life expectancy of someone recently diagnosed with COPD? If he stops smoking will that improve his outcome?
Lung lesions is a very vague and generalized term to use. Be specific and let know the exact report of the chest film. Is it a nodule or a tumour? If so then it can be related as COPD, lung cancer and emphysema all can be caused to heavy smoking. If he stops now he will certainly prolong his life but how much expectancy is something no one can answer,
