Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with major depression in 1989, tried for years to get better with therapy but finally was prescribed antidepressants in 1995. I have tried to come off it a few times under control of my doctor but got worse again. I had to change medications a few times because they didn't seem to work anymore. I am currently taking 20mg of fluoxetine and 60 mg of duloxetine a day. They keep me stable but I really don't feel any emotions and therefore can't really get motivated to do much. I took Cyban to try and quit smoking and for about 2 weeks I felt great. It was a small window of Cyban seeming to work as an antidepressant but then it was gone again. Are there any other antidepressants out there , that don't just work on the serotonin but other parts of the brain?
I went through your details. I do understand. Psychiatrists and therapists across the world treat major depressive disorder with a combination of pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, meditation, exercise and non-competitive games. I can assure you these psychotherapy, meditation, exercise and non-competitive games provide more relief than anti-depressants. Please consult a psychologist / psychotherapist for further information. Have faith in yourself and what you are doing. Depression is a mental disorder and not a mental disease. Mental disorder shall not exist without your conscious help. Take care.
