Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

I understand that you are feeling distressed about your husband's habit of masturbating at night. Now, the first thing that you should realize is that masturbation is a voluntary habit and it is very unlikely that someone can masturbate when they are sleeping and be totally unaware of it. So, it is likely that your husband is aware of his masturbatory habit but may not be admitting it to you. I think that he could be having a compulsive behaviour of masturbating, which he is unable to control and feels embarrassed about it.

Since this is distressing you singnificantly (and you are absolutely right in feeling distressed), it is essential that he seeks professional help. Though masturbation is part of normal sexual behaviour, it can cause relationship problem if it is excessive and if the partner finds it inaapropriate and annoying.

There are psychological therapies which can be helpful in overcoming such unwanted or compulsive behaviours. Sometimes medication may be useful if it is a compulsive behaviour. So, please take him to a psychiatrist for a detailed evaluation and further treatment.

Wish you all the best.
