Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have a grandmother who still work as a fish vendor she is 82 years of age and is activate ever time the fish season end she is always saying someone has stolen her money. she sometimes forgets to turn off the water at the sink or bath but most of all this happens when the season is coming to an end and she total up her make at the end of the season. i make sure that when we leave home the bedroom door is lock and we walk with the key, either way money is always missing. right no w it is the two of us home until it starts back. up til this morning she told me to my face and for everyone to hear that i am the one who stole her money i do not answer her back or look her way i know her mind comes and goes sometime but why is it always on the money
Thanks for contacting HCM I am sorry to hear about your grandmother and her recent memory problems. This is a very common problem associated with getting older and at 82 this is very common. Her focus is on money because it is the thing that brings the most anxiety to her. To help with her memory there are several medications that can help. In my practice I usually start with Aricept and then add Namenda. These medications help but are not cures for memory problems. I also recommend people who care for people with memory issues and Alzheimer's to read a book called "The 36 hour Day" by Mace and Rabins. this book will help guide and direct you on what to expect and things to help.
